These pictures are from the Calle de Siete Cruces, or Street of Seven Crosses. The real name of the street is Gabriel Garcia Moreno, after a two-term President of Ecuador in the 1800s.
Gabriel Garcia Moreno forms the western border of La Plaza de Independencia. The pictures in today's post were taken just south of the plaza.
The first picture is of La Compañia de Jesús, a very famous church. The next three are street scenes. You can see crosses in a few of the pictures.

Hi Bob!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I really enjoy your blog too!
I just replied to your google map and fishing question.
Are you on Facebook? Trying to find you there, so we can "friend".
I have some great photos of the local fisherman on several of my FB Ecuador albums that you might enjoy.
Hi Leigh,
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm on Facebook, although I'm not a real avid Facebooker. I might pick up my activity if I get more involved with the people blogging from Ecuador. My name is "Robert Barber" and I use the same profile picture that I use here.
Thanks for the information on the fishing! I have some fishing poles stored in Quito, that I haven't used much.
I'm having trouble getting Google Earth to run on my computer. Is Olón near La Rinconada? I have never been to that part of the coast. I have been from Guayaquil south to Machala, and from the Bahía de Caraquez area (where I bugged all the local fishermen for information) north a little bit, and also around Esmeraldas. Flor wants me to see Salinas the next time we are in Ecuador. We will be back in Ecuador in June.
Yes, Olon is just about 15 minutes south of Rinconada (teeny weeny town, but beautiful area, and some nice houses there).
ReplyDeleteIf you are coming to Salinas, please give us a head's up and call us at 09-217-2051. We would love to show you around our area.
Understand that you are not into FB...I was the same way several years ago, when my grown kids were urging me to do it (and I was kinda like "hullo, I'm still trying to figure out my f*****g i-Pod)
But since moving here, really think it is a good forum to communicate with far-away friends and family, and easier to look and share pics there (rather than wait sometimes for a 2MB jpg to download via regular email) given the slow internet speed at times, though EC making great progress to improve those tech difficulties in the last year or so.
I am a fan of FB now. I am going now to look for "Robert" instead...I don't "friend" indiscrimatley (sp?) for security/virus/privacy reasons, but it is a good way to communicate and think once you get comfortable with FB, you will enjoy it too...
And I do have some great pics of the fisherman here that I think you would enjoy if you go to my photo albums on my page.
